Event
Seattle Public Municipal Bank Forum
The event is a panel discussion of the concept and the advantages to Seattle and its citizens of a public municipal bank. A public bank, once capitalized, could generate loans for local needs at rates global Wall Street banks are unlikely to find attractive. A public bank could reduce city reliance on expensive private bond issuances, finance city projects while lowering reliance on taxation, and partner with community banks and credit unions to support small business with lending at reasonable rates.
Panelists are:
Mr. Nick Licata, Chair of the Finance and Budget Committees, Seattle City Council; Dr. Thomas Keidel, Board Representative, Federation of German Banks; Dr. Karl Beitel, Author and Political Economist; Ms. Gwendolyn Hallsmith, Executive Director, Public Banking Institute.
Panel moderator is:
Mr. Wayne Lau, Executive Director of the Rainer Valley Community Development Fund.
