Amber Norgaard Band Celebrating 10 Years of Music!
Ten years ago, Amber Norgaard packed her bags, left an Alaskan nursing career and moved south to pursue a musical dream. Four albums, multiple songwriting awards, and hundreds of thousands of miles later, Amber has found a niche in creating music that is a healing art. She has taken her experience as a nurse and made songs that address the complexities of the human journey writing for hospice and healthcare organizations, humanitarian causes such as veteran's issues and homelessness, multiple charities, spiritual organizations, special events and weddings, animal and wildlife rescues, and film documentaries. She tours nationally, performing concerts and speaking at schools and universities on using music as a healing art for social change. Her mission: to connect and heal.  Her songwriting spans the genres from adult contemporary rock and heart-touching ballads to upbeat country and full-on garage rock anthems.  She has opened for Judy Collins, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. In addition to her passionate vocals, piano and guitar playing, her performance is filled with soulful stories and quirky humor.

Amber will be accompanied by long-time band-mates and musical collaborators Doug "Hurricane" Floyd on electric guitar and Jay Trapp on bass, as well as Tucson-renowned drummer Mike Troupe.

ABOUT THE BAND:

Doug "Hurricane" Floyd has been playing guitar for 35 years with his first professional gigs at the age of 13. Doug's formal guitar training was with master classical guitarist Steven Saulls. He spent the early and mid 80's playing big band jazz and pop on stage, and heavy metal in the garage (including recording his first album in 1984). Since the 90's, Doug has won multiple TAMMIES awards for his work with Funky Bonz and Ozlo. In 2004, Doug met a talented young singer/songwriter needing some assistance to finish up her first album--Amber Norgaard. Doug contributed to 4 songs on that album, as well as performing on the entire Rising (2006) and Long Way Home (2010) albums. In 2007, Doug won the TAMMIES award for Best Electric Guitarist...in no small part due to his many live shows with Amber. He performed with Amber in her runner-up achievement at the nationally organized 2007 Winery Music Awards. Doug has recorded more than twenty albums with independent artists, as well as various commercial studio projects, and currently performs with Funky Bonz, The Jits, Disciples of Prime, Bad Tourist, Amy Mendoza, and of course, Amber. Doug has a wonderfully supportive wife, Tracy, and three beautiful daughters; Ashleigh, Amy and Clara.

As a NY City boy, Jay Trapp loved listening to his father's record collection, including artists such as Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. In 1963, twelve-year-old Trapp's life turned to rhythm when a friend's big brother noted Jay's intense interest and gave him a beat-up Japanese electric bass. His professional debut was in upstate NY with Mother Funk, which got frequent air-play and featured members of Cannibal & The Headhunters and Amboy Dukes. Jay also toured with folk troubadour Kurt Anderson.  Jay arrived in Tucson in the early seventies, co-founded Rock Bottom, and has since played with many of Tucson's finest bands and musicians. Among these are early nineties TAMMIES "Best Ensemble" winner Songtower with Stefan George; Rancho Deluxe with Kevin Pakulis; Vince Marino and Hal Rugg; and still plays southwest festivals with Stefan George's blues trio, The Conrads, also featuring Will Clipman. Additionally, Jay is a member of George Howard's Dr. Mojo and the Zydeco Cannibals, and the Amber Norgaard Band. Being well versed on the four-, five-, and six-string electric, and the acoustic and electric upright basses makes Jay a first-call studio session player; having laid down the bass tracks on almost 40 recordings for many genres of music, including rock, blues, folk, country, R&B, jazz and waila. He is an inductee of the Tucson Musician Museum.  Jay has been playing with the Amber Norgaard Band since 2005 and was the featured bass player on her Rising album (2006) and Long Way Home album (2010).

Mike Troupe has been playing drums since 1978 and performing music since 1982. His performances with bands over the years had him play a variety of musical styles ranging from Heavy Metal, Hard to Soft Rock, Country, Blues, R&B, Big Band, Bebop, Jazz-Fusion, Cumbia, Latin styles, and Reggae. Mike performed with the "Deems Tsutakawa Band" for over 7 years (deemsmusic.com), a mix of Jazz-Fusion, R&B, Funk, and Straight-ahead jazz. He has also worked with Seattle's renowned jazz bassist Steve Kim (www.kimpossibilities.net/). Mike has also performed with flutist Bradley Leighton (bradleyleighton.com). Mike graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle Wa. as an honor student and with an Associate of Arts degree in the Music/Video Business. He also studied music theory and jazz improvisation at Edmonds Community College. Inspired by drummers such as Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, and Steve Gadd, Mike sought out and studied for 5 years under drummer and educator Garey Williams (www.gareywilliams.com) of Seattle Wa. to help him attain the next level. During that time he also attended Garey's Master Classes (Studio& Big Band Drumming, Fusion drumming Workshop, Contemporary Drumming Essentials, and Latin Drumming Studies). Garey Williams gave Mike the honor of a written recommendation to teach not only private instruction but group classes as well.  Mike also has a back ground in live sound reinforcement and studio recording and has worked as head engineer for Seattle's rock band "Alice In Chains" (www.aliceinchains.com) and has recorded the Columbia Records signed rock band "War Babies"  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Babies_(band)).  Mike has worked with original guitarist/keyboardist Michael Bruce of Alice Cooper and is currently the drummer and Music Director of the "Fattburger Fugitives" which features founding contemporary jazz band "Fattburger" guitarist Steve Laury (www.stevelaury.com).
