DOUBT: A Parable
Doubt: A Parable, won both the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play. It was adapted into a multiple Oscar-nominated film featuring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis.
The one-act play centers on the suspicions of the principal of a Catholic school that the new priest is taking advantage of one of the male students. Although there is no solid proof of any kind, she embarks on a campaign to remove the priest from the school in order to protect the students which creates doubts (in many areas) for herself, a young teacher at the school, the priest and the mother of the student. Brilliantly written, DOUBT allows its audience to explore the issues of gossip and making assumptions as well as to see what comes from making a habit of both.
The Unity of Bellevue production features local actors Rachael Boyer, Penny Clapp, LaNita Hudson, and Nic Olson and is directed by David Duvall. There will be four performances: Thursday November 20 at 7:30 pm, Friday and Saturday, November 21 & 22 at 8:00 pm, and Sunday November 23 at 2:30 pm. The performances will each take 70 minutes with no intermission.
This play is being performed at the U.P.A.C. Auditorium (Unity Performing Arts Center) inside Unity of Bellevue.
