Inaugural Piano Trio
The Inaugural concert of the new Mississippi Chambre Music Guild will be presented Monday, November 10, 2014 at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the Inaugural Piano Trio composed of Marta Szlubowska, concert mistress of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Jesse Christeson, principal cellist of MSO and pianist, Melody Ng from the faculty of the University of Alabama in Huntsville will perform major works of Felix Mendelssohn and Serge Prokofiev and smaller works of other familiar composers.
The MCMG was organized this fall to enhance the opportunity to hear local and guest chamber ensembles in informal settings. Another goal is to engage young people into the art form, providing educational opportunities to learn about chamber music's interesting history and its immense repertory. A soiree was held in September where great enthusiasm was expressed for the formation of the Guild and its goals. The second concert, January 30, 2015, will be performed by Suchon, the wood wind quintet of the Slovakian Sinfonette, complemented by pianist Michiko Otaki, well known Japanese/American now teaching and performing in the Atlanta area. Two more events are planned for the MCMG inaugural season, a mixed ensemble including a singer of local professional artists and the Rolston String Quartet, now in residence at the Shepherd School of Music of Rice University in Houston.
