Tyler Stenson and Krista Herring at The Old Church
Portland singer-songwriters, Tyler Stenson and Krista Herring, pair together for an intimate night of storytelling and award-winning acoustic Americana songs that all ages and musical tastes will surely enjoy.
TYLER STENSON:
Born in Wyoming but raised in Oregon, Tyler Stenson is an arresting singer/songwriter of acoustic 'Elegant Folk' music that hints at comparison to songwriter greats such as James Taylor, Cat Stevens and Ryan Adams. While he has been locally recognized as the two-time 'Songwriter of the Year' by the Portland Songwriters Association (2007 and 2008) and 'Best Male Artist' at the 2011 Portland Music Awards, on the national stage, Stenson has received even more impressive praise from the top tier of the music industry. Recently hand-picked by legendary producer Don Was, Stenson was named a Top 10 Finalist in Guitar Center's Songwriter III contest (out of 10,000), as well as, he was hand-selected by Adam Duritz of Counting Crows and music critic Ryan Spaulding, to perform at their Outlaw Roadshow showcase at SxSW 2013 (out of 4,000). Additionally, Stenson's music is currently in rotation on SiriusXM's "The Coffee House" station (ch31), he was named ReverbNation's 'Breaking Artist' of 2013, he has opened for LeAnn Rimes, Chris Isaak, John Popper, Marc Cohn, Matisyahu, Allen Stone and more and his original music has been featured on multiple Chevrolet commercials and a few popular television series. Above all, Stenson has proven he's not just another 'guy and his guitar,' his foundational belief that 'lyric is king' sets him apart as a true artist worth getting to know.
KRISTA HERRING:
Soulful, elegant prose set to the beat of an acoustic guitar and delivered by powerful, captivating vocals that are at once angelic and earthy. This is what you can expect to hear from Portland's "Best Female Artist 2011," singer songwriter, Krista Herring, who has been said to have "an evocative grace, affecting presence, and raw acoustic sound reminiscent of the late Eva Cassidy, vocals to match both the pitch and dulcet resonance of Jewel, and a captivating elegance, and magnetism all her own." With songwriting compared to such greats as Patty Griffin, and soulful, searching themes reminiscent of Ray Lamontagne, Krista is a true artist on stage, painting emotional landscapes, and telling stories of love, loss, redemption, and the endless search for meaning.
WILL EVANS (Opener):
Visiting from the East Coast, Will Evans has spent the last decade as the primary song writer, and drummer/ front man of the roots rock outfit Barefoot Truth. Four full length albums and several EP's were recorded with Barefoot Truth, including their latest release "Carry Us On" which debuted at #10 on the Itunes rock chart. Recently Barefoot Truth has decided to take an extended hiatus, which has led Will to a new chapter in his musical journey. Will's solo project gives him an empty canvas to explore and create a new sound to share with anyone willing to lend an ear. Influences are drawn from a diverse selection of musical genres including hip hop, pop and folk rock artists such as John Butler, Lauren Hill, John Mayer, Bernhoft, and Ray Lamontagne to name a few.
