Bladeless Lasik Benefit by Dr. Jessica Fleishman MD
Dr. Fleishman is participating in the fund raiser for AIDS Lifecycle riding the 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles on her mountain bike. She would love everyone's support in donating. In return, at our benefit on December 24th, she will give away one custom bladeless Lasik surgery.

We believe Lasik can truly change many people's lives, and are happy to do this as part of the life-changing event that is AIDS Lifecycle (http://www.aidslifecycle.org/). Tickets are transferable. If the person is not a good candidate, he/she can give it to someone else. People who don't wear glasses can buy a ticket as a Christmas present for someone else if they happen to be the winner.

The drawing will be on December 24th, 2014 at our benefit event at the Laser Center for Sight of New York. We would love for everyone to get a Christmas present like this, but at least one person will have the opportunity to get his/her life "in focus" for Christmas!

---------------------------

Dr. Fleishman performs only bladeless Lasik, the safest way to perform this procedure since 2006. There are no scalpels, stitches or blades. The bladeless system makes precise thin layer cuts of corneal tissue using a fempto second laser, rather than a blade. The thin layer is folded back from the surface of the cornea. A second laser, the Wavelight excimer laser, reshapes the surface of the cornea to correct near or farsightedness and astigmatism. Then the tissue is folded back into place, where it bonds quickly.

The lasers used by Dr. Fleishman are state-of-the-art. The Wavelight laser is the only excimer laser that has been shown to avoid new optical aberrations and provide the best optical results.

In order to determine whether Lasik will be effective, a topographic analysis of the cornea must be performed. This test in addition to other factors like corneal thickness helps determine whether a patients is a good candidate for Lasik. Dr. Fleishman uses the Pentacam, a state-of-the-art topographer that analyses both the front and back surface of the cornea and also measures corneal thickness precisely throughout the corneal surface. Most topographers simply look at the front surface of the cornea and do not measure thickness. Thus, potentially missing vital information to determine candidacy.

Correctly performed, Lasik eye surgery can correct the most common forms of vision impairment  near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. A thorough eye examination for potential glaucoma or retinal problems is performed prior to any surgery. Doctor Fleishman uses the Heidelberg Spectralis, the most sophisticated diagnostic system to evaluate these potential problems. The Spectralis provides precise measurements of retinal and optic nerve health.

Healing for most patients is so fast that vision improves within hours of the procedure, and many patients return to work the next day. Dr. Fleishman performs Lasik both in New York City and in Albany NY, and the winner may claim his/her prize at any of these two locations.
