Day Bus Trip to Leavenworth's IceFest
The 2014 Bavarian Ice Festival was a smashing success! We're looking forward to even more fun in 2014... stay tuned for updates and listings Bus leaves Lacey @ 8:30am sharp. Leaves Lakewood 0900 sharp. Arrives in Leavenworth around 12 noon. Leaves Leavenworth at 6pm arriving in Tacoma around 9pm. Lacey 930pm Dancing in on the heels of Christmas is the Bavarian Ice Fest. Our village continues the celebration of winter with this annual playtime full of activities and events for all ages, and hosted by the Leavenworth Chamber. Enjoy again our magical wonderland dressed in lights, with winter fun, games and fireworks. A weekend grab bag of invigorating outdoor events includes snow sculpture, tug o' war, an ice cube scramble for kids six and under, the great Frisbee sweep, and Leavenworth's famous Smooshing Contest: a unique race peculiar to the Great Bavarian Ice Fest. The Smooshing contest is held on Front Street, with teams of four - their toes strapped to 8' long boards - trying to maneuver and glide down the street tandem-style. A wonderful thing about Ice Fest is that you can cheer from the sidelines or jump right in and compete for prizes.

GUIDELINES
1) Registration is mandatory for ALL events. 2) Waiver must be signed by participant or parent/guardian if under age 18. 3) Register on event day at gazebo. 4) Prizes awarded in all events and divisions except the Ice Cube Scramble and Snowball Toss. 5) Divisions & Registration Fees: Adult (18 & up) $5 Junior (12-17) $3 Youth (7-11) $3 Kid (4-6) FREE!! Tot (1-3) FREE!! Registration still required Teams please note: Each person registers individually, see above. REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 9 AM at the Gazebo in Front Street Park. To speed things up, fill out a registration form in advance.
SNOW SCULPTURE
TIME: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. LOCATION: Lions Club Park - (Between City Hall and Swimming Pool) DIVISIONS: Adult, Mixed Group, Junior, Youth Maximum 5 people per sculpture. Judging begins promptly at 3 p.m. Awards are given at the Gazebo at 4 p.m.
GREAT FRISBEE SWEEP
Sponsored by Wood Shop / Hat Shop TIME: 11:00 a.m. LOCATION: Front Street (on the Street) DIVISIONS: Junior, Youth, Kid A true test of housekeeping and coordination. Sweep a Frisbee from one end of Front Street to the other. The trick? Keep the Frisbee under control at all times.
ICE CUBE SCRAMBLE
Sponsored by the Icicle Junction Activity Center TIME: Noon LOCATION: Front Street Park (East of the Gazebo) DIVISIONS: Kid, Tot A great event for the children. Kids and tots scramble to collect colored ice cubes each with a surprise inside including money, toys, or Icicle Junction tokens.
SNOWBALL TOSS
TIME: Noon to 3 p.m. LOCATION: Front Street Park (By the Gazebo) DIVISIONS: Youth, Kid, Tot An old carnival standby with a winter twist.
BAVARIAN MUG RELAY
Sponsored by South TIME: 1:00 p.m. LOCATION: Front Street (on the Street) DIVISIONS: Adult, Junior, Youth Show your speed and grace. How do those Leavenworth Waiters and Waitresses do it?? Teams of 2 Make it through the obstacle course relay style with mugs full of - what else? - Ice Cubes.
SMOOSHING CONTEST
Sponsored by the Enzian Inn TIME: 2:00 p.m. LOCATION: Front Street (on the Street) DIVISIONS: Business/Commercial, Adults, Mixed Ages, Junior EQUIPMENT: Two 2"x4"x10' boards with foot straps for 4 people. No alterations may be made to any part of the boards (no waxing, planing, etc.) Evidence of tampering results in disqualification. A Board Buster at the start line inspects boards prior to each heat. RULES: 1) Single elimination event 2) TEAMS: 4 per team 3) Multiple heats may be run in each division (determined by the number of registered teams)
TUG O' WAR
TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: Front Street Park (East of the Gazebo) DIVISIONS: Adult Men, Adult Women, Junior, Youth RULES: 1) maximum 7 people per team 2) no spiked footwear 3) choppers/leather gloves must be worn by each team member 4) the winner goes on to play the next team until only one winner remains per division.
NORTHWEST DOG SLED PULLING COMPETITION
TIME: 3:30 p.m. LOCATION: Front Street Park (West of the Gazebo)
A sanctioned event of the International Weight Pull Association. The IWPA is a non-profit corporation that promotes the sport of dog pulling and the working heritage of all dogs. The IWPA also promotes a program to keep dogs in good physical condition with a constructive outlet for canine competition. All breeds of dogs from cocker spaniels to Saint Bernards are able to compete for regional and national points to qualify for international competition. There are eight weight classes, each dog competes in only their weight class. Non-members "provisional members" may pull, but will gain no points. Supplies & weights provided by Marson & Marson Lumber, Inc.
DOG SLED RIDES ON BLACKBIRD ISLAND
