NW Kodaly Educators Workshop: Our Youngest Singers
Our Youngest Singers: Nurturing Lyrical Little Ones and Masterful Musicians with Dr. Leigh Ann Mock Garner
April 17th and 18th
Friday 6-9 p.m. Saturday 9:00-4:00 p.m.,
Northwest University, Kirkland

Pre-registration closes April 16th at 11:59 PM.

Kodály guru and early learning expert Dr. Garner will present solid repertoire for developing musicianship amongst our youngest students. In a Kodaly-inspired classroom, children learn most effectively through musical play.  In this interactive workshop, participants will first explore quality repertoire, materials and activities for children ages 1-5, followed by materials for grades K-5.  Subsequently, ideas for how these activities function within a spiral curricular structure will be discussed. Demonstration group provided by Bellevue Girlchoir!

Dr. Leigh Ann Garner teaches elementary classroom and choral music at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Hastings, MN. In addition, she is the Director of the Kodály Institute at the University of St. Thomas, where she teaches pedagogy courses Levels I and II, and Folksong Analysis and Materials.  Garner also taught on the Kodály faculty at Wichita State University.  She teaches interactive workshops throughout the United States specializing in early childhood music, Kodály-inspired pedagogy, curriculum development, and standards-based assessments.

Garner is the co-author of Music and Movement: a music curriculum for children ages one-five, and is a contributing author for MacMillan McGraw/Hill music textbook series. She served on the board of the Organization of American Kodály Educators from 2004-2012.  She holds an EdD from the University of St. Thomas, an MA in Music Education from the University of St. Thomas, and a BA in Vocal Music Education from St. Olaf College.

Come prepared to sing, dance and leave with lesson ideas for your littles!
