Dave King Take-over feat. Dave King Trucking Co. + The Gang Font
Acclaimed drummer/composer Dave King has been a vital musical force over the past two decades, within and well beyond his Twin Cities home base. Following a run of international tour dates to support Inevitable Western, the latest album from iconoclastic jazz trio The Bad Plus, King will spend the bulk of his Thanksgiving break at Minneapolis music haven Icehouse, where he'll play with four different bands over three nights. This multi-show "takeover" will include performances by groups that have been scarce on local stages over the past several years, plus a rare reunion gig by '00s instrumental group Lateduster and an album release party for ascendant local quintet Red Daughters. Two of King's boundary-pushing instrumental groups play back to back. DKTC casts forward-thinking jazz through the lens of a heartland hero pushing 18 wheels on the open interstate, featuring Erik Fratzke on guitar, Adam Linz on bass, and Brandon Wozniak on saxophone. In The Gang Font, King and Fratzke favor noisy, mathy, mind-bending postpunk with help from keyboardist Bryan Nichols and former Hüsker Dü bassist Greg Norton.
