Rahsaan Roland Kirk:
The Case of the Three Sided Dream
- a documentary film on the life and times of Rahsaan Roland Kirk.
- Directed by Adam Kahan
"In 1971 jazz multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, leading an all-star band that included bassist Charles Mingus, drummer Roy Haynes, and sax experimentalist Archie Shepp. The invitation grew out of the Jazz & People's Movement, a Kirk-led effort to get more of what he called "black classical music" on TV and whose tactics included disrupting show tapings by tooting on whistles. The deal was for the band to do a nice, non-threatening jazz take on Stevie Wonder's smooth soul hit "Ma Cherie Amour." But Kirk wasn't about to declare simply getting on Ed Sullivan a victory, and when the lights went up the musicians rounded into the roiling polyrhythms of Mingus's "Haitian Fight Song." That fiery performance is shown in full in The Case of the Three Sided Dream, a music documentary about Kirk that will have its Indianapolis Premier at the Irvington Creative Music+Film Festival.

Paul Metzger
" truly Weird Americana on the 23-string banjo that gets at Fahey's Bartok obsession more than any other in this music." - total vibration
"Comparisons were made to players like Richard Bishop and Jack Rose, but the similarities were passing. No one was actually doing the same thing as Metzger, although he says, "Any bewildered loner cooking up something at home is a kindred spirit." The instruments he played were constantly evolving as well; sometimes he would add strings, other times remove them in a deliberate process to find a certain sound."  Wire Byron Coley

Tim Kaiser
"Tim Kaiser is a sonic wizard exerting prowess over his hand-crafted instruments. A rig of Frankenstein objects create a wall of sound as they react to light, the flip of a switch, a shifted knob or the plucking of a steel rod. Growing out of this array are audible undulations, sheets of reverb and unknown timbre all mutable, amorphous and evolving. Kaiser's tableau of instruments resemble a scientific laboratory, a steampunk console, entertaining our imagination and questioning our definition of music"
"Tim Kaiser's fabulously weird world of musiceclectic genius!"  Bend it Like Bach, Make Magazine

HYRROKKIN
"Best New Band (2012): Hyrrokkin. Simply amazing. Think early Dischord meets jazz..." - David Obenour / Ghettoblaster Magazine
"Enjoying new Hyrrokkin EP: Astrionics. Don Cab/Hellaish guitar meets a punk-fusion rhythm section." - Hank Shteamer / Time Out NY
"Hyrrokkin - 'Astrionics': 25 minutes of surprisingly hooky instrumental power trio skronk-rock." - Phil Freeman / Burning Ambulance

DMA
DMA is David "Moose" Adamson, songwriter for the now dissolved Indianapolis band Jookabox (formerly Grampall Jookabox). DMA is a crust-funk musical project based in the infamous, powerful, and widely discussed "Scrimp-Screet" cultural movement. With DMA, Moo is now free to get as weird, creepy, and sweet as he pleases, in a lone wolf way. "It'll be nice to dance wildly at my shows again," quipped the handsome and sharp-witted Moose when reached for comment.
