Movie Screening of BANISHED by Marco Williams
Please join Urban @ Home for a private screening of BANISHED by Marco Williams. BANISHED is a film revealing a little-known chapter in the history of race relations in America. From the 1860s to the 1920s, dozens of towns and counties across America practiced their own form of racial cleansing, violently expelling entire African American communities and forcing thousands of black families to flee their homes. A century later, these towns remain have virtually no people of color. In BANISHED, filmmaker Marco Williams travels to three of these communities and asks: what can be done today to repair past injustice?
The event includes a networking happy hour from 6pm 7pm along with a Q & A discussion after the movie moderated by Kenya Justice, a Charlotte eminent domain attorney. We will also be taking donations for F.A.R.M.S, a legal and youth education non-profit committed to assisting African American farmers and landowners retain land for future use of next generation farmers of color.
