Emily C. Johnson Makes Her St. Louis Cabaret Debut in the Boisterously Funny The New Girl In Town: A Cabaret at The Chapel Venue on January 24, 2015.
St Louis, MO November 6, 2014
'What high school did you go to?...'
It's a question she has heard too many times to count. After living in a small farming town, Emily Johnson finally made the decision to trade her campfire nights for city lights, and moved to St. Louis in August 2013. Just in time for a mammoth winter, she treacherously navigated a new beginning beneath the golden arch.
"I'm not from St. Louis," she jokes, "so there is pretty big chance, you don't know anybody from my alma mater." So why should we care about this country mouse? "I want to share all the wonderful things that I have discovered not only about the city itself and the people who live here, but also as a result, the discoveries I've made about myself along the way."
She further laments, "For example, why do St. Louisians ask trick-or-treaters for an accompanying joke on Halloween? Is it because they are seeking legitimate compensation from a five year old?" No matter the reason, Ms. Johnson effortlessly gives us a fresh perspective on our much beloved town while revealing the poignancy of a major life transition. "Moving isn't easy," she pauses "without realizing it, you join three book clubs and a knitting circle all in an effort to make friends."
Accompanying her is Maggie McCarthy, a St. Louis native and Webster student. We can expect a set list that includes modern show tunes, classic favorites, and a healthy sprinkle of pop. Come join her for a night of music, laughter, and drinks as she recounts the tale of how a kookie country chick became St. Louis slick.
