The Death Monologues celebrates Day of the Dead
"I do not like to fight. I always win, in the end, or in the middle or from the very beginning, I always win. It is no fun. I do not like to fight. I love to dance." ~Death~
Come experience this unique and uplifting 55 minute one woman show, written and performed by Giselle Suarez, on DAY OF THE DEAD. It is guaranteed to change your life...and your death! The performances will be followed by a brief celebration/ ceremony in honor of those who have had their dance with death.
THE DEATH MONOLOGUES is a unique and uplifting theatrical experience that dives right into life's greatest taboo. Death appears as our Master of Ceremonies, who is tired of getting a bad rap and has come to set the record straight. She takes us on a fascinating ride through different monologues, which reveal five unique characters' perspectives, different sides of the story, that will shed a very different light on a commonly dark subject.
After, a successful run in New York as part of the International Fringe Theater Festival, THE DEATH MONOLOGUES is back in Arizona with two shows celebrating Day of the Dead. Here are some testimonials from the New York shows:
"The Death Monologues is a warm and intimate performance, crafted with a profound respect for life, love, loss and healing. Through a conversation with Death, Giselle Suarez leads her audience on a journey of personal discovery about the one thing all people have in common and encourages us to reconsider our preconceived notions of death. It is an uplifting spiritual and healing work of art. I came away from the experience with a deeper understanding of how new life emerges in the space loss creates."
"I really appreciated this perspective on death and felt uplifted by the message."
"The heartfelt story of Giselle's mother's death brought me to tears. Having lost a parent myself this play really resonated with me." "The Death Monologues makes you laugh and cry reminding you that life and death are two sides of the same coin and this is a currency we must spend wisely." "Having just gone through a tragic death in my family, this play's message allowed me to feel connected, uplifted, and liberated from my loss." "What a beautiful and touching piece about a difficult subject that touches all our lives."
"I saw your performance of Death Monologues today at the Fringe Festival in NYC. It was a wonderful play, and beautifully performed: I was moved and energized. You seemed to capture so much about our relationship with death, redirecting our fear into more constructive channels."
If the title of this show scares you or makes you want to run the other way, then it was made especially for you! Trust me, this is the one show you must see in your lifetime!
Giselle is a Cuban-American theatre artist who studied theatre in Europe. She graduated with a BA from the Royal Theatre Arts Academy in Utrecht, NL, with experience in theatre making and acting. From there, she went on to perform European professional theatre circuit.
Later, together with her husband Jorrit, she formed and was the artistic director of MOMENTA, a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands, which completed several theatre projects in Central America working with the young Mayan population.
In 2009, she came back to the US, to be with her mother who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. She spent nine months with her assisting her on her death journey. This experience changed her life drastically and she became fascinated by the 'miracle' of death. It has become one of her passions to help shift the consciousness of death in our culture. This is what inspired the creation of THE DEATH MONOLOGUES, which unites her two arbitrary passions, death and theatre.
Along with performing, Giselle has also become very involved with death, working with and assisting others in many different ways such as being a death doula (a professional who supports and assists individuals and their families through death and dying), hospice work, end of life and grief counseling, and through ceremony and ritual.
The Death Monologues is her original solo and a life's work.
Don't miss this special opportunity to experience THE DEATH MONOLOGUES!
