Birds of the Bay
One focuses on water. One focuses on land. Both share a passion for teaching people about their environment and providing opportunities to get out and experience it. "Birds of the Bay" is a collaborative program born of the shared passions of BaySail & the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy.
On Monday, October 13th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., birders are invited to join Land Conservancy staff aboard Appledore IV as it travels down river and into the Saginaw Bay in search of the common and not so common birds that may be found here at this time of year.
Tickets are required and may be purchased for $30 by calling BaySail at 989-895-5193. Binoculars are not required, but are highly recommended. "This area is rich with bird life during fall migration and you may get the chance to see the many ducks, swans, geese and other unique lake-bound birds that are making their way south for the winter" said Zachary Branigan, Executive Director of the SBLC.
"It doesn't matter if you're a novice birder or an expert, you are likely to find a species to excite you and the opportunity to see habitat from a unique perspective, the deck of a tall ship," said Shirley Roberts, Executive Director of BaySail. Any proceeds will be used to support the programs of BaySail and the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy.
