Burn the River 2014 - Sacramento Valley Decompression
Burn the River is a 21 and over non-profit event celebrating community, art and self expression. This is a burner based event, produced by volunteers from the community for the community. We strive to create an event space that promotes participants not spectators. This is not a show it's a collaborative interactive gathering.
Our small temporary River City is made up of event builders, theme camps, mutant vehicles, artists, performance artists, dancers musicians, costume artists, event producers, gate and perimeter staff, rangers, lamp lighters and too many other categories to name. Each year we have this celebration about a month after Black Rock City (aka Burning Man) is burned and dismantled. We create a space within the walls of our small temporary city that allows us to express our art and our local burner culture.
This culture is based on the 10 principles of Burning Man, self expression, volunteering and gifting. The event is de-commodified - once you pass the gate there are no vendors. Nothing is for sale. The art you interact with is brought by the artist. The band or the DJ playing is there to gift their music. The fire dancers perform because they love it.
Come and bring your creativity, yourself and your version of gifting. Not all gifts are things. Here is a good explanation of what we mean by gifting:
