Event
Jam for Justice with Karen Lewis ft. Starfoxxx, Ono, Ethos and Marvin Tate!
Join radical artists from across Chicago to celebrate our movement to take back all of our communities with Karen Lewis, three amazing musical acts, and one inspiring poet because a revolution without dancing is not a revolution worth having!
Ticket sales have ended, but you can get in for a $10 donation to Karen's campaign at the door.
Standard tickets were $18 with $25 as the solidarity rate and include your first drink FREE. Low-wage tickets were available for $10 because we strive to organize events that are accessible to all people while Karen fights to empower those oppressed by the system. It is our goal to turn away no one for inability to pay. If you would like to join the celebration but cannot afford the low-wage ticket, please contact us. All proceeds go to the Karen Lewis Campaign fund. Get your tickets here: jamforjustice.brownpapertickets.com
We'll hit the night off with Kush Thompson, the youth author and teaching artist for Young Chicago Authors performing her poignant poetry. www.kushthompson.com/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_nFbupCihA
[Ethos, (Ethan Viets-VanLear), a powerful youth poet as well as a Prison Abolitionist Organizer and Peace Circle Keeper with Circles and Ciphers, and an autonomous Food Grower with LETS GO Chicago, is no longer part o fthe program as he will be in Ferguson with the groups he organizes with. www.project-nia.org/circles-and-ciphers.php - http://letsgochicago.org/ ]
Marvin Tate, Chicago's soulful writer, singer, spoken word performer, Def Poet member, and frontman of the legendary funk band, D-Settlement, has the stage next with a poetic mix of his spell binding, vocal-led, and straight up prophetic solo work. www.tatemarvin.com
Karen Lewis, the current president of the Chicago Teacher's Union, and future mayor of Chicago, was scheduled to tell us about her vision for not just a single individual to be elected, but for a people's movement to take back the power of government from the profiteering crooks who don't care about us. Our prayers and well-wishes are with Karen Lewis as she recovers from her successful surgery.
Then, ONO the famous and infamous legendary new world industrial soul road warriors lead by Travis Travis Travis, is going to take us away with they're entrancing sound. www.facebook.com/onoband www.huffingtonpost.com/rachel-mason/the-chicago-band-who-disa_b_5607139.html
Finally, electronic musician/DJ Starfoxxx (and Karen's former Lane Tech student) will crank up the jams as we dance into the night. www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/2014/08/13/chicago-producer-starfoxxx-talks-about-dumb-tattoos-sampling-cats-and-his-forthcoming-debut-album
