Under The Sun is an outdoor dance series.
About Umfundalai: Meaning "Essence" in Kiswahili, this is a Pan-African dance technique created by Dr. Kariamu Welsh in 1970. Umfundalai espouses a holistic view of the body and the arts including theater, music, sound, song, masquerade, and vocalization.
About the Instructor: Erin Bryce Holmes, M.S., R-DMT, LCAT, graduated from Pratt Institute, is currently a dance therapist at Kings County Hospital and teaches at Mindbuilders Creative Arts Center. She has apprenticed with Urban Bush Women, danced with Kariamu & Company: Traditions, African American Dance Ensemble, and many other organizations. She traveled to West Africa to study the culture and has been a guest teacher at Temple University, Dance New Amsterdam, Pratt Institute, Central Academy of Technology and Arts and elsewhere. She currently dances with Denovo, Ase Dance Theater Collective, and Ephrat Asherie Dance.
