March 20th - Peter Bost, Bass-Baritone
April 17th - NC Harp Duo
May 15th - Eclectic Winds

May 15th - Eclectic Winds

Eclectic Winds is a woodwind trio consisting of Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon.
Virtually all instruments constitute a family of different voices  typically soprano, alto, tenor and bass.  A string quartet, for example would be made up of two violins, a viola and cello with all the instruments possessing a similar tone and timbre.

What makes a woodwind ensemble different is that it is made up of radically different instruments  each with its own unique sound.  The result is a musical experience of great diversity and interest.

Eclectic Winds offers a repertoire that extends from the baroque to the late 1900's.  Its members are not only accomplished musicians but also capable and engaging educators.  Accordingly, they are fully able to entertain and inform their listeners.

The members of the trio include:

Clarinet: Steven Foster, is a graduate of Western North Carolina University and music teacher in the Cabarrus County Public School System.  He is also a member of the Extraordinaires, a popular band that plays music of the previous generation.

Flute:  Sarah VanSkike will graduate this year from Lenoir Rhyne University with a degree in music and plans to continue her studies toward a Masters degree in flute performance.

Bassoon:  Lutz Keller earned his BS in chemistry and biology at Lenoir Rhyne and his MDiv at Duke.  A retired minister he has played with a number of orchestras over the years including the Western Piedmont Symphony, Asheville, Salisbury and Wilkesboro.  He is also the founder of Eclectic Winds.

April 17th - NC Harp Duo

The North Carolina Harp Duo, combines the talents of professional harpists, Grace Wepner Ludtke and Leigh Stringfellow. Their duo "gracefully" showcases the dynamic range and versatility of the concert grand pedal harp, sharing music specifically composed and arranged for two harps.

Both Grace and Leigh began harp lessons at the age of 10, Grace in Hickory, North Carolina and Leigh in Seattle, Washington. When Leigh moved to North Carolina, she and Grace became friends while performing together in the North Carolina Harp Ensemble.

Leigh earned a degree in music and harp performance from Vassar College and is currently completing a Master of Music in Harp Performance from Appalachian State University in Boone. Grace, a Newton native now living in Greensboro, earned a degree in music and harp performance from Converse College's Petrie School of Music. Both Grace and Leigh currently tour with the NC Harp Ensemble.

Their musical program includes classical, popular and modern compositions. Program highlights include selections from Johann Sebastian Bach's Sixth French Suite; three folksong duets (Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair, He's Gone Away, Shenandoah) arranged by Greensboro composer, Jack Jarrett for the NC Harp Duo; and Carlos Salzedo's Chanson dans la nuit (Song in the Night) which demonstrates various sound effects on the harp.

March 20th - Peter Bost, Bass-Baritone

An eclectic mix of show tunes, classical and traditional pieces featuring Peter Bost, bass-baritone and Gregory Knight, pianist!

You can look forward to hearing traditional tunes like "Danny Boy," well-known show-tunes such as "Stars" from Les Miserables and even classical pieces like "Der Erlkönig" by Franz Schubert.

Peter Bost is no stranger to the area and is best known for his performances in local community theatres. You may have seen him as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Charles Dickens in A Christmas Carol, and Tevye in Fiddler On the Roof (just to name a few).  Bost graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and also studied at the Fletcher School of the Performing Arts. He toured with The National Opera Company for two seasons and has been a featured soloist throughout the state of North Carolina.

Gregory Knight started playing the piano when he was five and graduated with a BA in piano performance from Lenoir-Rhyne College. Knight has performed as guest soloist with the Western Piedmont Symphony on several occasions, and performs regularly with a variety of local musical groups, including Puddingstone and the Caldwell Men's Chorus. He has appeared extensively over the years with choral groups, schools, stage shows, and various other soloists and musical groups.  His performances have been broadcast on WDAV's Carolina Live program and in October 2014, Knight was featured on American Public Media's Performance Today.

"My passions are my daughter Ella born in Czech Republic, my yellow lab Brownie born in Czech Republic, my cello Her Majesty "Opera" of Luby u Chebu, Czech Republic born by master luthier František Zakopčanik in 1989, humanity, and Music.

My professional goal in life is to advocate and practice dedicated, highly professional and well informed ways of instrumental training based on profound understanding of the Physiology of Playing. I love teaching students of all levels, ages, backgrounds. I firmly believe that it is especially the beginners - children or adults - who deserve the best possible training to help them secure firm foundation and strong connection with their instruments and music.

My playing philosophy stands on the foundation of beautiful sound and deep understanding of performed piece. I love to research, learn, think, write and talk about music, especially everything cello, but most importantly I love to share and play music.

My path to the current state of my art and knowledge was paved by the art and wisdom of wonderful cellists and people Jürgen Wolf of Dusseldorf, Germany and Jan Hollinger of Rotterdam, Netherlands and by my academic mentors and professors:
