Elsa lives deep in the mountains of the Caribbean island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Her husband has just died and her son-in-law and granddaughter arrive to take their leave of him. Elsa observes with concern the relationship between the two. Only her face gives away her unease as she continues to go about preparing food, hanging out the wash, picking berries, feeding the chickens and tending the garden. Then, she does what is necessary to protect her granddaughter.

Guatemala 2009. Wealthy and charismatic lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg Marzano was shot and killed near his home. A few days later, a YouTube video, in which Rosenberg pronounces his contempt for the situation in his country and its government, is uploaded. The video closes with Rosenberg's words, "Unfortunately, ladies and gentleman, you are watching this video because I was murdered by the President Álvaro Colom."
