Of Cello and Guitar - Rafael Popper-Keizer and Aaron Larget-Caplan
Greater Boston House Concerts opens its 4th Season with a magnificent concert of luscious music for guitar and cello, including the Boston premiere of 'Concert Champêtre' by Thomas L. Read of Burlington, Vermont.
A full array of music is featured in this one night event: timeless solos by Bach, fiery passionate Spanish duos by Manuel De Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, Enrique Granados, and sounds of our time by local composers include a Boston premiere!
A moderated Question and Answer session with the artists and reception will follow the evening's concert.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS AND GBHCONCERTS:
RAFAEL POPPER-KEIZER, CELLO
Hailed by the major Boston and New York press as "imaginative and eloquent," praised for his "dazzling dispatch of every bravura challenge" and his "melodic phrasing of melting tenderness," cellist Rafael Popper-Keizer maintains an active and diverse career as chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral section leader. Imprimis, Mr. Popper-Keizer has appeared nationwide in various capacities, including performances in the Rockport Chamber Music Festival in Massachusetts, John Harbison's Token Creek Festival in Wisconsin, and the Monadnock Chamber Music Festival in New Hampshire. Locally, Mr. Popper-Keizer has enjoyed guest affiliations with the Fromm Players at Harvard, Winsor Chamber Players, Boston Musica Viva, and the Walden Chamber Players, as well as long-term relationships with Boston's Emmanuel Music and Firebird New Music Ensemble. Mr. Popper-Keizer has concertized with many of New England's most esteemed chamber musicians, including members of the Borromeo and Muir String Quartets, the Museum of Fine Arts Trio, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra; as well as recent appearances with the Boston Trio, violinist Curtis Macomber, and flautist Eugenia Zuckerman.
AARON LARGET-CAPLAN, GUITAR
The Washington Post describes classical guitarist Aaron Larget-Capan as "a riveting artistnot to be missed". And "Aaron is the ideal 21st century artist" by composer Thomas Schuttenhelm.
Born in Oklahoma and raised in Colorado, Mr. Larget-Caplan is the founder of the New Lullaby Project, the Spanish music and flamenco dance ensemble ¡Con Fuego! and Greater Boston House Concerts. Recent performances, both as a soloist and chamber, musician include Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, Sicily and Mantova, Italy, and state side throughout New England, Memphis, Tennessee, the Oregon Coast and Southern and Northern California.
Aaron has premiered over 50 new compositions, many of which were written for him, and released two solo CDs: New Lullaby (2010) and Tracing a Wheel on Water (2006). He is also featured on three other CDs on Albany and Navona Records, and his third solo release is due out this season.
A graduate of the New England Conservatory, Aaron is on faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston and formerly at the Boston Conservatory. Greater Boston House Concerts takes places in a historic 1885 home, recreating the Salon experience of intimate concerts and exchanging of ideas in a warm and inviting environment. Founded in May 2011, GBHConcerts was founded by Aaron Larget-Caplan as a means of bridging the chasm between popular culture and art music. With over 20 concerts to date, GBHConcerts is being recognized as a cultural leader in Art Music outside the concert hall.
