Lowdown Hoedown featuring Grand Ole' Ditch, Brokedown Hustlers, and The Plate Scrapers
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1 Doors: 7pm | Show: 8pm
GRAND OLE' DITCH A home-brewed bluegrass band out of the little mountain town of Cumberland MD, Grand Ole' Ditch is all about having some new fun with that old Appalachian sound. The band derived its name from an important piece of Western Maryland history: the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The Canal, nicknamed the Grand Old Ditch, carried coal from the Allegheny Mountains to the East Coast during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Bluegrass told the story of the people of this era, and was an essential part of their culture.
Formed in Fall/Winter of 2012 at weekly pickin' sessions among old friends, Grand Ole' Ditch has created a strong presence in the Mid-Atlantic bluegrass scene. After a win at the 2013 Watermelon Park Bluegrass Band Competition, the band has filled the 2014 calendar with shows that will include appearances with Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, The Hackensaw Boys, Cabinet, The Travelin' McCoury's and a spot at the infamous Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition.
BROKEDOWN HUSTLERS Conceived in a tree, born in a campfire, the Brokedown Hustlers are an acoustic band of the truest grit and originality. Front man August West leads the band along a lyrically laden journey, accompanied by the raw and untamed styling of his band mates Tennessee Jed (Guitar, Harmonica), Barely Garcia (Guitar, Banjo), Jack Straw (Mandolin), and Philthy Lush (Upright Bass). The music will move your feet. The words will grab your soul. Before you know it you're singing along. By no means are they just another stringband. They reach out to many styles, only to identify with none. Singing tales of mischief, heartache, and lawless debauchery, the band blends cleverly crafted lyrics with original acoustic composition, creating a style all their own. Expect a complete listening experience paired with a lively performance full of energy, improvisation, and crowd interaction.
THE PLATE SCRAPERS The Plate Scrapers are a four piece string band performing traditional bluegrass and old-time tunes, topped off with a helping of their own original material. The bands wide taste in music, ability to jam, and impeccable instrumentation, will keep you coming back for seconds!
