Storytelling Workshop with Dovie Thomason
Get a lesson in storytelling from multi-award winning, master storyteller, Dovie Thomason.
Dovie Thomason Award-winning storyteller, recording artist and author Dovie Thomason comes from the rich oral tradition of her Kiowa Apache and Lakota family, She has had a lifetime of listening to and telling the traditional stories that are the cultural "heartsong" of community values and memory. Beautifully intertwining history and personal stories, she shares these with wit, elegance and passion.
Ms. Thomason has shared stories throughout North America and overseas: with NASA, numerous Indian education programs on reservations, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the National Geographic Society, NPR's "Living on Earth", and the BBC's "My Century." She has been a featured storyteller at countless festivals and has had extended engagements at the Smithsonian's Discovery Theater, Wolf Trap, and the Kennedy Center. The National Endowment for the Arts has recognized her commitment to traditional cultural arts and education and named her as a Master Traditional Teaching Artist. This performance is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mississippi Arts Commission.
