Join us at the Yuma Historic Theatre, located in downtown Yuma, November 1, 2014, at 7:00 PM, to witness an art form that has, until now, been hidden from the City of Yuma in the underground world of Art that once released, is more than capable of rivaling bigger cities.
From the blurry fingers, key smashing and legendary virtuoso playing style of Caryl James Thompson, to the smooth, melodic and nirvana sounds of Kinsey Phillips, these two pianists not only discovered what Ludwig van Beethoven meant when he said, "Don't only practice your art, but force your way into its secrets," but have defied the odds of entering into a realm of musicianship that has only been acquired by a rare few.
DRESS ATTIRE: Semi formal
BIOGRAPHY OF PERFORMERS:
Kinsey Phillips -
At the age of 7, Kinsey Phillips was surprised with a gift from her parents...a wooden upright piano. After taking piano lessons for just a few months, Kinsey was mesmerized by the way her teachers played, closing their eyes and at times swaying to their music with such passion. One warm sunny morning, Kinsey heard a tune on the radio and had memorized the sounds, humming to the tune. She then ran to the piano and immediately played the tune and thus, her rare gift of perfect sound recognition had been born. Today, at 23 years of age, she performs in order to share her passion with others and inspire others into the music world, as well. Currently performing at local restaurants, art centers, local banks, wineries and for Arizona Western College, Kinsey states that her most cherished performances are for those at hospitals and nursing homes because it is a healing tool when performed correctly.
Caryl James Thompson -
Touching a piano for the first time at the age of 3, Caryl James went from mimicking Bugs Bunny playing piano on Looney Tunes, to performing onstage while representing the 'American School of Music' for solo piano competitions in Miami, Florida. Shortly thereafter, at the passing of his beloved elder piano professor, Jeannie, Caryl James soon distanced himself from the piano, only to find himself returning to the ebony & ivory keys, 15 years later, at his discovery of Frèdèric Chopin's music. Since then, with the encouragement of family & friends to perform for others, Caryl James began displaying his "secret" to the masses, both locally at salons & wineries, as well as on social media such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, where he has gained a mass amount of followers and admirers (In the thousands), including several professionally respected and famous pianists who compliment his work and have befriended him. Caryl James has most recently won the 2013-2014 'Yuma's Best Musician' award and is ranked #1 on ReverbNation.com's Local Rankings under the New Age/Classical music category. Currently, he has been employed as a Law Enforcement veteran for the State of Arizona for approximately 9 years and graduated from Arizona Western College with a degree in Law Enforcement Training.
