Chemical Dependency Training Consortium of the Northwest presents Developing Trauma-Informed Attitudes and Practices
PeaceHealth Southwest Mill Plain Campus Health Education Center
Vancouver, WA
Share this event:

Many individuals who seek treatment have histories of trauma, but often don't recognize the significant effects of trauma in their lives; either they don't draw connections between their trauma histories and their presenting problems, or they avoid the topic altogether. Likewise, treatment providers may not ask questions that elicit a client's history of trauma, may feel unprepared to address trauma-related issues proactively, or may struggle to address traumatic stress effectively within the constraints of their treatment program, the program's clinical orientation, or their agency's directives. This training will introduce treatment providers to trauma-informed care and address trauma-related prevention, intervention, and treatment issues and strategies in treatment services. Treatment Improvement Protocol 57 from SAMHSA is fundamental piece of this training.

Participants will be presented with fundamental concepts that can be used to become trauma aware and knowledgeable about the impact and consequences of traumatic experiences for individuals, families, and communities. Participants will be introduced to core principles and practices that reflect Trauma Informed Care and decrease the inadvertent re-traumatization or vicarious traumatization. Appropriate trauma-related screening, assessment, and treatment planning tools will be reviewed. Application of implementing Trauma Informed Care and Secondary Traumatization will be reviewed to ensure successful workplace integration.

Objectives
Participants of this training will be able to

* Identify and define the term "Trauma-Informed Care",
* List how trauma-informed care affects clinical outcomes,
* Explain the impact of trauma and its influence on treatment and recovery,
* Indicate area of change for implementing trauma-informed care in the workplace
* Name three strategies for preventing secondary traumatization, and
* Complete the Compassion Satisfaction and Compassion Fatigue Scale.
