Hold Me Tight
This performance looks at the true-crime story of sisters Christine and Léa Papin, who worked as maids in the Lancelin household in Le Mans, France. On the 2nd of February, 1933, after having gouged out their eyes, they beat their employer, Madame Lancelin, and her daughter to an unrecognizable pulp.
Over the last nine months we have worked as an ensemble to develop this original, devised production using dance, spoken word, soundscaping, and integrated projection to explore the supposed incestuous relationship of the sisters, their ostracization and isolation and how we as performers can relate to their Delire a Deux.
As an ensemble, we have focused on the intense intimacy of the sisters relationship, and how that intimacy led to such extreme violence. Issues of class, gender, sexuality, and the basic human need for physical touch, have all informed our final performance.
