Weirdo Show: One Weird Year!
Its been a year and the Weirdo Show is celebrating its one year anniversary at the Bier Baron! The last twelve months we have seen top tier talent from all over the United States and its been one helluva ride! Celebrating this month, we've taken some of the biggest advocates of the Weirdo Show and put them back on our stage. Each of these performers have gone above and beyond for the Weirdo Show as well the community in general, and with love we bring them back! Lets meet them again!
Mab Just Mab is a nationally touring sideshow performer who combines theatre, music, movement, comedy to bring you classic sideshow, with a taste of vaudeville, covered in comedy, seasoned with ukulele. Mab can be found monkeying around with the rest of the Cheeky Monkey Sideshow, which happens to also be DC's longest running theatrical sideshow. Mab believes that every single person has superpowers. One of Mab's super powers is the ability to find the shortest lane in at a toll booth. The other is the ability to walk on broken glass and hammer spikes into her face. Mab is a freak. You probably shouldn't try that at home!
Jim Dandy - Sideshow returns to the Weirdo Show stage to bring about the laughter only he can. Jim Dandy is a circus clown gone horribly wrong. He got his performance start at Madison Square Garden where he was eventually described as "weird" and "hilarious." Eventually, one paper would even say "Sid Vicious would die a second death if he saw [Jim Dandy]." After years of touring, he is taking his unique blend of comedy, sideshow, and burlesque to theaters and clubs near you. Known for his impeccable juggling skills, bizarre sense of humor, and his infamous geek act, Jim Dandy is one act you will not want to miss.
Katie Did is a whip cracking, fire eating, ukulele playing, daredevil defender of variety goodness that can be found performing in the DC/MD/VA area. Always sweet, always stunning, all rolled into one alabaster package with diverse abilities. Whether it's singing a couple of tunes, breaking the sound barrier, or setting herself ablaze, you'll never know what this unpredictable beauty will do next.
A delectable dichotomy of sweet and spice, The uncontainable Mourna Handful is a DC/MD/VA-based burlesque performer and a co-founder of the now deceased Black Tassel Boolesque, who produced shows from the dark and decadent to the creepy and campy. She focuses on character and narration to create storytelling striptease that will make you scream with delight.When you see this buxom contradiction of naughty and nice, be prepared to be whisked away to a storyland in another time and another place, and where the inhabitants are slightly naked.
Ryan F. Downey is a DC standup comedian and good friend to the Weirdo Show. Running a monthly comedy showcase at Sidebar in Silver Spring, Ryan has hosted several DC variety performers in his showcase and we intend to return the favor. In the days of the midway, it wasn't uncommon to have a stand-up comedian entertain a crowd, and we have a great one for this show! Four years of comedy in the District and going strong, you better hold onto your seats otherwise you'll be rolling on the floor. Some say the F stands for funny, and they would be correct!
Then there is the man with the silver tongue, the Professor Sprocket himself, John Spitzer! Having graced the Weirdo Show stage since the beginning, the founder of the Weirdo Show will be our ever loving host for the evening. A talker, an entertainer, a ballyhoo-er of great renown, audiences have been known to erupt into spontaneous applause just from his pitch!
September is definitely a month of celebration! Rumor has it, some of the producers and performers may be breaking open their collections for a very special raffle as well...
