Nutria-Palooza Sur la Coulée: Righteous Fur Fashion Show & Wetlands Benefit Auction
Produced by Righteous Fur, which has a Save the Wetlands - Wear More Nutria mission to bring nutria to the contemporary fashion market. Nutria-Palooza will feature a fabulous runway show and benefit auction of nutria designs created by local Lafayette and Louisiana designers.
Hosted by Righteous Fur co-director Becky Schexnayder, the show will be staged on a spectacular outdoor runway on an expansive spread of land right next to the Lafayette Coulée and the Horse Farm nature preserve. It's a beautiful natural setting for sustainable fur fashions that come straight from the bayou.
Hot 8 Brass Band will get guests in the spirit of a lively evening, which includes a rousing rendition of "$5 a Tail" by members of Cathead Biscuit Boys and a short clip from the locally-shot documentary film "Rodents of Unusual Size." Members of Hot 8 will also provide the soundtrack for a cavalcade of models sporting a dazzling array of fashions crafted from nutria fur and other locally-sourced materials.
At the end of the runway show, guests will have a chance to bid on designs that catch their eye in a benefit auction. They can also visit the Bounty Boutique to purchase nutria-teeth jewelry and nutria-fur accessories by Righteous Fur and Tchoup Industries; and Marsh Dog nutria pet treats.
Tickets are $25/ $30 at the door and include hors d'oeuvres by local restaurants.
Cash bar includes signature "$5 a Cocktail" drink, Bayou Teche Biere and wine.
Parking at the event location and additional parking at 315 S. College.
A portion of all ticket sales, and proceeds from items sold in the runway auction and at the Bounty Boutique go to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, whose mission is to restore and protect our sustainable Louisiana Coast.
