Gain Sharing Automixing Moves From Secret Weapon To Mainstream
Dan Dugan demonstrated a prototype adaptive threshold automatic microphone mixer at the New York AES convention in 1974. Subsequently he demonstrated a prototype of gain sharing automixing at the AES in Los Angeles. Forty years later, gain sharing automixing is offered as a feature by Avid, Calrec, Protec Audio, SSL, Studer, Yamaha, and Waves. Applications range from the ubiquitous panel discussions at conferences to presidential campaign debates and World Cup commentary. Dugan will outline his development process, explain the math, and demonstrate the performance of his popular algorithm.
