Collage New Music

Featuring soprano Mary MacKenzie, praised by the New York Times for her "extraordinary agility and concentration," the Collage New Music concert on October 5 will focus on masterworks: "Noon Dance" by Joan Tower, "Song Offerings" by Jonathan Harvey, "Samuel Chapter" by John Harbison, and "Spring Fever" by Andrew Imbrie. The concert is Sunday, October 5 at 8 pm at Pickman Hall, Longy School of Music, 27 Garden Street, Cambridge, MA. Conductor David Hoose will host a pre-concert conversation at 7 pm. A note from David Hoose: "History as fresh as tomorrow"
Music from 1978, 1982, 1985, and 1996 - that's a new music concert? If it's fresh, vital, lively, and (most importantly) rich, then yes. Do we discover something fresh hearing again a beloved Bach work? I hope so, lest we trod the same path, more dangerously comfortable each time.

These are four works that Collage has performed in past seasons - three of them were written specifically for CNM, and they and their creators are dear friends. They are also creations that resonate deeply, whether you're hearing them as brand new, or hearing them anew. This is not about revisiting, but about renewing. Music of this concentration and beauty offers such a possibility.
