Alto Sax Legend Lee Konitz
Alto Saxophonist Lee Konitz has enjoyed one of the most creative and prolific careers in modern jazz. After early experiences with the Claude Thornhill Orchestra and Stan Kenton's Orchestra and the innovative small groups of pianist Lennie Tristano, Konitz rose to prominence by recording the landmark "Birth of The Cool" with Miles Davis in 1949-50.  Since then, Konitz turned freelance and has remained on the cutting edge of post-bop improvisation ever since.

Always an innovator, Lee's many collaborations over the years read like a "who's who" of the Jazz world. Lee Konitz is the only still active musician to have played all three ever existing Birdland clubs in New York City, as well as the very first and most recent Newport Jazz Festival.  Lee was voted "Alto Saxophonist of the Year" by the Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll in 2010 and numerous times before that.  This is a rare chance to hear a true living legend of jazz in an intimate setting!
