Art Sparks After School Jewish Arts Program

Open Tent Shul of the Arts Presents an after school program for all youth ages 10 and older.

Klezmer Youth Band with David Rosenfeld
Klezmer (Yiddish for "instruments of music") is the rollicking musical tradition of the Jews and Romani people of Eastern Europe now experiencing a phenomenal revival around the globe. Students will learn the foot stomping and soulful tunes from the Klezmer musical repertory as well as a Sephardic tune. The band will also have the opportunity to accompany the shadow puppet play for the Hanooka Fiesta! Dec 14th. All instruments welcome. Students should have a great enthusiasm for music and intermediate skills on their individual instruments.
Cost: $250.

ArtSparks Theater Troupe with Lynn Gottlieb and Bruce Bierman
Students in this 8 week theater workshop will bring to life the Talmudic tales about the Greek conqueror Alexander The Great, and how he learned wisdom from the people he tried to conquer. Through spoken word, physical comedy, movement, music, masks and puppets, students will create a full ensemble performance for the Hanooka Fiesta Dec. 14th. Rehearsals include fun theater and improv games, mask making and set creation.
Cost: $250 plus $50 materials fee.

The Shadow Puppet Workshop With Daniel Barash
Three weeks only! Mondays Nov 17 Dec 8
Experience the magic of shadow puppetry and the miracles of Hanukkah. Participants will use shadow puppetry to bring a classic Hanukkah folktale to life on the shadow screen. After creating the puppets and rehearsing, puppeteers will then share their performance at a community-wide Hanukkah celebration.
Cost: $200
