Chicago Choral Artists - A Candlelight Christmas
Our December concert set, titled A Candelight Christmas, is comprised of warm and lovely Christmas pieces old and new. We will begin with the Gregorian chant O magnum mysterium, followed by Victoria's Missa O magnum mysterium, a setting of the Mass incorporating elements of the Gregorian chant. Lauridsen's modern setting of O magnum mysterium will echo these themes later in the program.
Artistic Director Michael D. Costello has programmed a composition by CCA's own Trevor Patrick Watkin, a carol by Carl Schalk of Melrose Park, Light Everlasting by Christiansen from the St. Olaf tradition, and Herzogenberg's, Lo How a Rose. His nod to Great Britain continues with Holst's Four Old English Carols and carols by Rutter and Hobby. These and additional works will be sung a cappella or accompanied by strings and oboe.
