Sometimes after training or performing for a while we start to hit some obstacles. We start to feel limited, or that we're being caught in the same trap repeatedly and don't know how we continually keep getting there, or more importantly, how to get out. Improv Diagonostics is for the improvisor who feels they are hitting the same ceiling in their work, or simply want to get an outside read on what they're doing in order to better develop new ways of working on-stage. We will spend the day doing scene work, and trying to find where we can make choices that better serve the scene, and our own ability to enjoy those scenes. There will be plenty of individual feedback and guidance, and you will leave with a short term objective to focus on. Level 1 class completion required.
ROB BELUSHI was born in Chicago and graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. He returned to Chicago to train as an actor at the Steppenwolf Theater, The Second City, IO Theater and The Annoyance Theater. His first job was as a host at Second City, shushing drunk tourists and watching the resident company perform 8 shows a week. Soon Rob was hired onto the Touring Company and went on to become a member of The Las Vegas Resident Company and Understudy for the Resident Company, or Main Stage, in Chicago.
Improvisation has aided him in his pursuit as a commercial actor, as well as in television and film. This year he has appeared on all ten episodes of the largely improvised The Joe Schmo Show (SPIKE) as well as The Goodwin Games (FOX) and just wrapped production on DEVIL'S DUE (20th Century Fox) in New Orleans.
He has performed at Chicago Sketchfest, Charleston Improv Festival, Atlanta Improv Festival, colleges and corporations nationwide and last April returned to The Chicago Improv Festival as a headliner with partner Jon Barinholtz, performing their two-man show, SHELDON. Rob has taught improvisation with the Second City in Las Vegas, Chicago and presently in Los Angles, as well as colleges nationwide, and he likes to focus on the theatrical aspect of improvisation as a means to create truly unique scenework, grounded in human emotion.
JON BARINHOLTZ was born and raised in Chicago and is a proud alum of The Second City Conservatory, iO, The Annoyance Theatre, and Steppenwolf Theatre. Jon moved to Los Angeles in the summer of '09 where he enjoys performing with his sketch and video group Sad On Vacation (www.sadonvacation.com) and in various improv shows all over the city, with Sheldon (Comedy Central Stage, Chicago Improv Fest) being his favorite.
You might have seen Jon on the old TV (television) on Parks and Recreation (NBC), Happy Endings (ABC), Getting On (HBO), Key and Peele (Comedy Central) and in the upcoming shows, The McCarthys (CBS) and Pie Guys (Comedy Central). Also, keep an eye out for Jon this Fall in DUMB & DUMBER TO (Universal). Jon wants you to know at one point in his life he thought he had a chance to play in the NBA, and was very wrong about that thought.
