Music of the Austro-Hungarian Empire
The Musical Offering's 44th Season October 12th, 3:00pm, Sundin Music Hall
Piano Trio in G major Hob. XV, No. 25 ("Gypsy") - Franz Josef Haydn Wind Quintet No. 1 - Endre Szervánszky Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, op. 25 - Johannes Brahms
The Musical Offering begins our 44th season with a program highlighting Hungary's influence in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The afternoon's concert opens with one of Haydn's most beloved piano trios, the Trio in G Major known as the "Gypsy." Next, we hear Endre Szervánszky's textured Wind Quintet No. 1, followed by Brahms's rich and autumnal Piano Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, which features a thrilling final movement he called a "Gypsy rondo" - it's a quartet-sized Hungarian dance that will take your breath away!
The Musical Offering is an ensemble of Twin Cities' best classical musicians now entering its 44th season. We emphasize emotional and intellectual connections to the music through interaction from the stage and after the concert. We invite you to enjoy an afternoon of distraction-free, top-quality chamber music!
