Louder Than Love - Film Screening and Poster Exhibition
The Man in the City Film Series continues at the Marlene Boll Theatre at the Boll Family YMCA with this exciting film screening and exhibition on Thursday August 28 at 7:00pm.
Y Arts Detroit, in partnership with The Man in the City Project, is screening Detroit themed films monthly to raise much needed funds to support arts programs for area youth and families. August features a very exciting pairing: "Louder Than Love" by Kresge Fellow Tony D'Annunzio and an exhibit of the poster art of Gary Grimshaw.
Louder Than Love is the greatest untold story in Rock & Roll history as revealed by the musicians, artists, and people that lived it. While the West Coast was groovin' to the sounds of the summer of love in 1967, Detroit was pumping out a hard-driving, gritty, raw sound that was Louder Than Love. The Grande Ballroom stood as the epicenter of the Detroit rock music scene in the late '60s. Serving as the starting point for bands such as MC5, Iggy & The Stooges, Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes, The Grande Ballroom not only influenced local Detroit musicians but inspired bands from all over the U.S. and Great Britain.
This film screening will be paired with an exciting gallery exhibit of the artwork of the late Gary Grimshaw, an American graphic artist active in Detroit and San Francisco who specialized in designing iconic rock concert posters.
