Lecture Description
Our region is in the throes of a heroin epidemic. How did this happen and what can we do? Dr. Perilou Goddard will draw on the latest scientific research to untangle the causes of this unprecedented surge in heroin addiction and shatter myths about this deadly drug. Integrating empirical evidence from across the globe, she will illustrate several approaches that may reduce heroin's harm and help our community recover. Finally, Dr. Goddard will discuss the progress being made by a coalition of community partners working to fight the heroin epidemic and the work that still needs to be done.

Perilou Goddard
Dr. Perilou Goddard has been a professor of psychology at Northern Kentucky University since 1989. She earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1987 and completed two years of post-doctoral training at the Brown University Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies before joining the NKU faculty. She is the 1999 recipient of the Frank Sinton Milburn Outstanding Professor Award. Her training is in clinical psychology, with research and teaching specialties in drug policy. She has taught drug policy courses in the U.S., England, and Norway, and has given drug policy presentations in six countries. She is currently working with People Advocating Recovery and the Heroin Impact Response Team to address the region's heroin epidemic.
