First Annual Beacon of Hope Auction
We will begin with a Silent Auction followed by Dinner, a Live Auction and a Dessert Dash! We are privileged to have guest speakers, Dorris Walker and Jennifer Clinger join us all the way from Nashville, Tennessee. Peoria Home is a non-profit organization in Snohomish County, Washington. The mission of Peoria Home is to RESTORE, GUIDE & INSPIRE women to build brighter futures. The goal of the organization is to provide individualized support for women with a history of prostitution and chemical dependency. Peoria Home will coordinate services with other agencies to provide counseling, drug and alcohol treatment, medical and dental care, life skills and job training. Partnering with community members and local businesses for financial support is a key element to the implementation of a two-year recovery program. Come to our fall event to be informed and inspired! The last day to register is September 22nd!

Dorris Walker Bio: Dorris was born in a rural area of Tennessee, graduated from the local high school and even attended Austin Peay State University. At a young age, Dorris suffered a childhood trauma that eventually led her to drug and alcohol addiction, prostitution, and more abuse. In her words, "My mother and father were humble believers in God and I have always carried that belief inside of me, even throughout the devastating years of my addiction. Today, Dorris is a survivor. She endured the streets of Nashville for 26 long years filled with multiple rapes and near-death experiences. She says, "I am now a very grateful Thistle Farmer. I was given a chance to heal, and I have managed to put my life back together with the blessings of the Lord and the dedicated love of Magdalene and Thistle Farms. I am dedicated in paying the love forward and speaking out for women all over the world who have yet to find their way back to a life of serene living." Dorris is currently the Events Coordinator for Thistle Farms and recently purchased her first car!

Jennifer Clinger's Bio: Jennifer is the youngest of 12 children from Dayton, OH. She attended a Catholic school and church. and although her family was active in parish life, her father was a violent alcoholic. Jennifer experienced sexual abuse when she was young and in the seventh grade she began smoking marijuana. Within a couple years, Jennifer frequently ran away from home. Eventually she met a man and was married at 17. Together they had a child and she suffered more abuse. Her drug use escalated and she eventually resorted to street prostitution to fund her drug habit. Returning to her Catholic roots, she went to confession and told a priest her story. The priest, a recovering alcoholic, helped Jennifer find Magdalene  a long-term program in Nashville, Tennessee. Though a two-year waiting list, Jennifer was persistent. She called Magdalene everyday and was able to secure a bed after a couple months. She became a resident in 2010 and began at Thistle Farms later that year. Jennifer thanks God for giving Founder Becca Stevens a vision. She says Magdalene works because "you get to work at your own pace. They keep loving you until you love yourself and they've shown me that love really does heal." She is now a the PR/Marketing Assistant at Thistle Farms and has just moved into her first apartment!
