Monsoon Banh Mi Social

Eric and Sophie Banh will host Andrea Nguyen, a friend and the author of the brand new book The Banh Mi Handbook, for an afternoon of delicious Vietnamese sandwiches.

"We've put on events with Andrea for her last two books, Asian Tofu and Asian Dumplings, and they were both wonderful," says Eric Banh. "We're looking forward to having her here again."

Nguyen has always loved making sandwiches, and loves the unique template the classic banh mi provides. A banh mi is a twist on the classic French combo of pâté and baguettethe Vietnamese version adds tangy pickle daikon and carrot, chile slices, cucumber, cilantro, and succulent proteins.

The event is from 4pm to 6pm and the cost is $30/person including tax and gratuity. Ticket price also includes a signed copy of the book, as well as samples of three delicious banh mi and a fresh-pressed sugar cane cocktail. Nguyen and the Banhs will be on hand to chat about Viet food and cooking.

Andrea Nguyen is a writer and teacher whose work appears in the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and Saveur, where she is also a contributing editor. Opened in 1999, by sibling chefs Sophie and Eric Banh, Monsoon is acclaimed for introducing modern Vietnamese cuisine to Seattle. Tucked into a quaint Capitol Hill neighborhood, this Seattle gem is widely influenced by the culinary traditions of Saigon, as well as the fresh ingredients of the Pacific Northwest. In addition to time spent in the kitchen, Eric maintains an award-winning wine list. Monsoon opens for lunch at 11:30am Monday Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 10am for weekend brunch.
