Cosi Fan Tutte
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Local Nonprofit Presents Cosi Fan Tutte in Concert; AKA the little opera that would not quit. We have a cast and a great venue and This concert will happen.
CONCORD, Calif. June 13, 2015 Pleasant Hill-Concord based vocal ensemble I Trovatori Opera will present a concert performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 1890 operatic masterpiece, Cosi Fan Tutte, in a joint fundraiser with the Concord United Methodist Church (CUMC) on June 13 at 7 pm CUMC's Oglesby-Close Hall.
Cosi Fan Tutte will be sung in the original Italian, with supertitles in English to help the audience understand each dramatic plot-twist.
Set in Naples in the late 18th Century, Cosi Fan Tutte is a tale of jealousy and love. Cynical Don Alfonso wagers young lovers Guglielmo and Ferrando that their sweethearts, Dorabella and Fiordiligi, like all women, are not to be trusted in matters of love. The two accept his bet, and together they hatch an elaborate plot to deceive the women. The resulting tale teeters on the edge of tragedy, but in the end, all is resolved neatly and happily.
Cosi fan Tutte was only performed a few times during it's first run, before it was interrupted by the death of Emperor Joseph II, and in the following century many revisions were made to the work because of the supposed immorality of the plot. Cosi was not a popular opera until the 20th Century, when it was at last acknowledged as one of the great pieces of operatic repertoire alongside Mozart's acclaimed work, The Marriage of Figaro.
Our first rate cast includes: Jennifer Thuman as Fiordiligi, Miriam Drumm Brutus as Dorabella, Katherine Feller as Despina, Robert Vann as Ferrando, David Zelenka as Guglielmo, Bret Beppo as Don Alfonso. All Local Talent! Our Chamber Ensemble will be conducted by Franklin Chang, the ITO Chamber Ensemble and Pianist Lyudmilla Chudinova.
All current tickets will be honored on 13 June at 7pm. We regret that we had to delay our performance, but after much deliberation we believed it in the best interest of our artists and our audience. Please accept our humble apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to a great concert of Mozart's great work on Sunday, 16 November at 3pm and your continued support of our company.
Sincerely, Sonia Alonso Harden Artistic Director I Trovatori Opera, Inc. (501C3 pending)
