2014-15 Season Subscription
Celebrate 35 years of Literate Theater with a season subscription, which includes:

Edward Albee's AT HOME AT THE ZOO
Sept 19-Oct 26, 2014
Directed by Steve Scott

"Sometimes it's necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly."

A man sits at home and talks to his wife, then sits in the park and talks to a stranger. Edward Albee delves deeper into his play THE ZOO STORY by adding a first act, HOMELIFE, in which we witness Peter's conversation with his wife Anne shortly before he has his fateful meeting with Jerry on a bench in Central Park. The great American one-act and its newly written prequel are, together, one of the simplest and most shattering plays ever written.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's HOLMES AND WATSON
Nov 7-Dec 14, 2014
Adapted and Directed by Artistic Director Terry McCabe

"I have endeavored to give some account of my strange experiences in his company from the chance which first brought us together."

A new production of one of City Lit's most acclaimed shows, an exploration of the relationship between Dr. John H. Watson and his remarkable friend, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Adapted from two of the greatest Holmes stories, "A Scandal in Bohemia" and "The Final Problem," and featuring Holmes's two most brilliant adversaries, the American opera singer Miss Irene Adler and the retired mathematics teacher Professor James Moriarty.

FATHER RUFFIAN: Shakespeare's Fallstaff Story
Jan 9-Feb 15, 2015
Adapted and directed by Paul Edwards

"...that reverend vice, that grey iniquity, that father ruffian..."

The Jeff winner for Best New Adaptation for our PEYTON PLACE two seasons ago now stages Shakespeare's tale of Prince Hal and his two "fathers," King Henry IV of England and the entirely fictional Sir John Falstaff.

THE BLOODHOUND LAW by Kristine Thatcher
Apr 17-May 24, 2015
Directed by Artistic Director Terry McCabe

"For sale at auction-Italian clock, breakfast and card tables, sterling silverware, china place-settings, Negro girl about 14 years of age, two oriental rugs, four-poster bed, and various other sundry items."

Chicago, and downstate Illinois, in the days of the Fugitive Slave Law. A moving and penetrating look at the human drama of both black and white Illinoisans whose lives were changed by the worst law in American history. A world premiere by City Lit's associate director and the final production of our civil War Sesquicentennial Project.
