Botanical Printmaking
Treat yourself to an afternoon of art exploration in this focused printmaking class. Artists Stephanie Martin and Stacy Frank will teach nontoxic drypoint intaglio and monoprint techniques, which open many avenues for creative exploration.
Participants will create original prints using an etching press and archival inks and papers. All materials provided. Enrollment limited to 12; all experience levels welcome. You do not have to be an 'artist' to participate.
More about the Artists
Stephanie Martin is currently exhibiting her etchings at the SFBG Library. She studied botany in college, and after a career in education, took up art in 2004. Her recent series of etchings depicts the flora and avifauna of California. She sketches birds and nests at natural history museums, and finds botanical subjects in wild and cultivated gardens. Stephanie is always excited to introduce others to the fascinating process of printmaking. You can see her artwork at www.stephaniemartinart.com.
This one-day workshop will be co-taught by Stacy Frank, daughter of long-time Chronicle cartoonist Phil Frank who penned the comic strip Farley. Her twenty years of printmaking experience is paired with a pragmatic and gentle teaching manner. With training as a scientific illustrator she is an enthusiastic studio artist who loves to share the joy of printmaking, especially the drypoint technique taught in this workshop. You can learn more about her artwork and process at www.stacyfrank.com.
