RAC Presents KWPC Baroque
KWPC brings to life the exquisite Baroque instrumental music composed for the courts and chambers of 18th century Europe.  Performing on original period instruments, Kathleen Kraft, baroque flute, David Wilson, baroque violin, Farley Pearse baroque cello, viola da gamba, and Phebe Craig, harpsichord, combine impeccable scholarship with an infectious enthusiasm.

Just as the cleaning of an old painting reveals its original, bright colors, so performing an old work on the instruments of its period, allows the composer's art to shine through.  Join us for this "subtle and highly musical" performance in the intimate venue it was originally intended for, recreated to transport you back into the time of court musicians of the 18th Century.

PROGRAM:
Bach, LeClair, Telemann and other chamber music of the High Baroque Period, focusing on the Italian School.

Kathleen Kraft completed studies in flute with Frans Vester at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Hague, the Netherlands, where she began specializing in Baroque flute with Frans Bruggen. She has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, including concerts for the San Francisco Early Music Society, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the National Flute Convention, the Locronan Festival de Musique in France, and Tage Alte Musik in Regensburg. She has performed with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Concerto Amabile, Sonoma Baroque, and Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver. She has taught privately for over 30 years in Sonoma county and Berkeley and is former co-director of the San Francisco Early Music Society's Baroque Workshop at Sonoma State University. Ms. Kraft has recorded with Concerto Amabile and American Bach Soloists. She lives in a secluded paradise in the coastal hills outside of Occidental, California. An expert on California native grasslands, she is active in watershed restoration and native coastal prairie conservation projects.

David Wilson has performed extensively with period instrument ensembles in the United States and Europe. An avid chamber musician, he plays regularly with Ensemble Vermillian and Magnificat, and he is a founding member of Archetti, Florilegia, the Galax Quartet, and other ensembles. A co-founder of the Bloomington Early Music Festival, he also performs regularly at the Boston Early Music Festival and the Berkeley Early Music Festival. He has taught baroque violin at Indiana University, where he earned the Doctor of Music degree in Early Music, and he holds degrees in violin from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. His interests outside of music include cosmology, zymurgy, and science fiction (and he would love to discover a science fiction novel about a homebrewing cosmologist). He is the author of Georg Muffat on Performance Practice, published by Indiana University Press.

Farley Pearce is a performer on both the various sizes of viola da gamba and the baroque cello. As a cellist he has performed widely in the South-Eastern region of the US, most notably with the Spoleto Festival, with whom he has also played in Italy. For five years he was a member of the Charleston Pro Musica, and he has performed as a recitalist in Brazil and Uruguay. Since moving to San Francisco Farley has been an active free-lance performer with many of California's orchestras and chamber ensembles. In the Bay Area he has performed on viola da gamba, violone, and baroque cello with Magnificat, the Jubilate Baroque Orchestra, the Sex Chordæ Consort of Viols, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Airs and Graces, and many other period instrument groups.

Originally from Colorado, Phebe Craig spent her student years in Berlin, Brussels, and San Francisco. She has earned a reputation as a versatile chamber musician and recitalist and has performed and recorded with many early music ensembles. As a specialist in basso continuo realization, she has accompanied many prominent early music soloists, both in concerts and recordings. She has appeared in concert throughout the United States and at the Carmel Bach Festival, the Regensburg Tage Alter Musik, New York State Baroque and the Berkeley Early Music Festival.  She currently co-directs the UC Davis Baroque Ensemble where she also teaches harpsichord.
She has co-produced a series of Early Music play-along recordings for treble instruments (The DiscContinuo series) and co-authored a Guide to Baroque Dance for Musicians (Dance-at-a-Glance). She has been on the faculty of numerous Baroque workshops and was the director of the San Francisco Baroque Music and Dance Workshop for many years
