This event brings an eclectic mix of choreographers together to share their innovative and original works. Choreographer Bios
Katrina Amerine began performing at the age of seven, appearing in "The Nutcracker" with Pasadena Dance Theatre. Since then she attended the American Ballet Theatre summer program, and was a graduate of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in 2005. There she studied with Francisco Martinez, Marat Daukayev, Vera Ninkovic, Beth Hirschhaut-Iguchi and Don Martin. She performed for the Lester Horton Awards, DeAth Ballet/Los Angeles, and in charitable events such as S.O.S., Fashion With Compassion and Heavenly Creatures. She was a principal dancer with California Contemporary Ballet in 2008, was a guest artist with Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet, danced with Paradigm Dance Theatre and is currently also a member of ObjectDefy Aerial Entertainment.
Jahnna Biddle is a choreographer, director and performer. Her varied performances and projects include House of Blues Move to Groove Ball, Key Club Choreographers Carnival, Mandalone Projects, Greek Theatre Youth Celebration, cast member of Sister Ella with Director Larry Heart & music master Michael Jackson, Fame LA TV Series, HBO's The Tracey Ullman Show Tracy Take On & State of the Union productions, and other various music videos and TV/film projects. She currently directs the dance program at Robert Louis Steven School in Carmel, California. While changing the direction of dance at RLS, she hopes to reach out locally to help guide a new generation of young artists.
Marika Brussel is a San Francisco-based choreographer and teacher. She trained in New York City as a scholarship student at the Joffrey Ballet School and at the High School of Performing Arts. She performed with Joffrey's Concert Group, Ballet Theatre of New Mexico, Napoles Ballet, and as a guest artist with companies around the country. Her work has been performed by Berkeley Ballet Theater, Ballet Theater of New Mexico, and at festivals around California, most recently at sjDanceCo's ChoreoProject.
Jacqueline Cousineau is a dancer and choreographer living in Paris, France. She often finds herself working in the milieu between dance and theater. She counts choreographers David Dorfman and Maguy Marin as big influences in the way she approaches movement and text and she has had the pleasure to study in-depth under both. Jacqueline grew up in Salinas, CA and studied at SpectorDance until the age of 18. She currently works with choreographers recently Diane Broman (Brussels), Jann Gallois (Brussels and Paris) and Myriam Gourfink (Paris). Jacqueline will finish a Masters in Dance at the University Paris 8 in the Fall.
Mads Eriksen was born in Copenhagen in 1985. He attended the Royal Danish Ballet School and upon graduation, joined the company in 2002. Mr. Eriksen danced with The Royal Danish Ballet for 6 years doing various soloist roles before joining Ballet San Jose in 2007. After one year with Ballet San Jose Mr. Eriksen became a permanent part of Ballet San Jose School Faculty. After retiring from dancing in 2010, Mr. Eriksen became a senior faculty member of Ballet San Jose School and a Certified American Ballet National Training Curriculum affiliate.
Nancy Evans Doede studied and danced for modern dance pioneer, Hanya Holm, and then danced with the Nancy Hauser Dance Company under the direction of Nancy McKnight Hauser. She also taught and choreographed while with the company, and her choreography was included in the Hauser Company repertory. She was also director of Nancy Evans Doede and Dancers while still working with Nancy Hauser. In 2010, after both her children graduated to go on as dancers, she established Nancy Evans Dance Theatre, and has been producing work since. Nancy has been choreographing in both the concert and musical genres for 30 years. She is a master teacher of both modern technique and dance composition, and has given master classes nationally and internationally. She has mentored many young students looking for both company and college opportunities in dance, and some of her students went on to the Prix de Lausanne, Hamburg Ballet School, The Juilliard School, Laban School of Contemporary Dance, and others. Nancy has been active in other branches of the arts as well. After graduating from Illinois State University with Honors in Acting/Directing, she became an original member of the world-renowned Steppenwolf Theatre, where she was an actress and the company's first female director. In Los Angeles, Nancy was an assistant director at the Taper, Too, and a directing intern at the
Mark Taper Forum New Works Festival. She was a producer of the Children of the World Project which received a Grammy nomination in 1985. She also was Managing Director, producer, director and actress with the Actors' Company, as well as a founding member of Outpost Theatre Ensemble where she also wrote and produced her own plays. www.nancyevansdancetheatre.com
Mark Foehringer is an internationally active choreographer and dance educator who has directed his San Francisco based contemporary dance organization, Mark Foehringer Dance Project|SF (MFDP|SF), since 1996. He choreographed and taught throughout the US and abroad, working with organizations that include: Rambert School of Contemporary Dance in London, Ballet Nacional del Peru and Cisne Negro Dance Company of Brazil. Outside of Northern California, Foehringer's company has been seen in Aruba, New York City and Peru. Foehringer received two Fulbright Scholar Grants to lecture and set work in Peru in 2007 and 2012. He returned to Peru in 2013 on Specialist Grant through Council for International Exchange of Scholars. In 2013, he launched Conservatory for Contemporary Dance Arts to train and mentor young dancers for university dance and professional careers. In 2014, his company MFDP|SF moved to a new home at Kunst Stoff Arts in San Francisco where it holds workshops, ongoing classes and company rehearsals. For the past eight years, he has
curated Young Choreographer's Forum and Dancing in the Park SF. From 1996-2006 he held the positions of artistic director and resident choreographer of Western Ballet in Mountain View, CA. Currently, Foehringer is working on an evening length work titled "Dances of the Sacred and Profane" which will reopen the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center in September. Erica Klein is a 16 year old dancer/choreographer, born in Monterey County, who trains part time at SpectorDance and part time in Hollywood. She transitioned from martial arts to fine arts at age 10, and has been training in ballet, hip hop, jazz, and contemporary ever since. Erica participates in numerous weekend conventions/competitions, where she showcases her self-choreographed solos. In addition to solos she loves choreographing group dances and teaching classes. Her future plans include going to college as a dance major and continuing to pursue a professional dance career.
Jennifer Logan started formal training in Houston, Texas performing in various productions before getting sidetracked by a design career. She graduated from Woodbury University with a BS in Graphic Design and shortly thereafter founded Studio Fuse, Inc. to service nonprofit and performing arts organizations. Seeking some much needed balance, she headed back to dance. Jenn has had the pleasure of working with choreographers Eryn Schon, Rebecca Levy, André Megerdichian, Janet Roston, Frit & Frat Fuller, and now Nancy Evans Doede, NEDT company members and guest choreographers. She is a founding member and Executive Director of Nancy Evans Dance Theatre. When not dancing, Jenn runs an award-winning graphic design studio, Studio Fuse, Inc., working with non-profits, arts and cultural organizations.
Matthew Nelson is a choreographer, dancer, movement educator, body-worker, and scholar. He has taught dance at Willamette University, Lewis & Clark College, and Winona State University, and also maintains a bodywork and movement therapy practice. He holds an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah, is a certified Laban Movement Analyst, licensed massage therapist, and Pilates practitioner. He has performed extensively with Santa Barbara Dance Theatre, and additionally credits his artistic lineage to the communities of the University of California Santa Barbara, American Dance Festival, University of the Arts, Pomona College, Dance Fusion, Anne Marie Mulgrew Company, Philadanco, and numerous yoga studios and teachers. Research interests reflected in academic and choreographic publication include spinal connectivity, somatic philosophy, and embodied ecology. www.bodysensate.com
