Malaysian Home Cooking: Jumbo Shrimp Sambal
Come learn how to cook Malaysian cuisine the way I learned to cook in my mum's kitchen. No stainless steel prep tables or white toques, I'm simply passing on the wisdom of the Malaysian kitchen the way it was taught to me. The atmosphere is laid back yet focused on mastering a number of typically Asian ingredients. BYOB and a friend for an escape to the East!
In this class, you'll learn how to make a versatile, easy and mouthwatering sambal dish. We'll use jumbo shrimp for this session and then discuss how you can easily make chicken, beef, pork, fish, squid or tofu in the same style.
Sambal is one of Malaysia's most popular condiments/cooking ingredients. A blend of chillies and other ingredients, we will explore everything from the most basic to the most complex sambal. I'll also show you how to make a simple cucumber salad - the perfect balance to the spiciness of the sambal. We'll cook together, then sit and enjoy the delicious meal that we've made. The class is as hands-on as you'd like it to be depending on your level of ability.
About Auria:
Auria was born and raised in the tiny town of Seremban in Malaysia. Sharing the delicious and diverse cuisine of Malaysia has always been her passion. New Yorkers who have experienced her cooking at NYC's food festivals, pop-up markets and street fairs know the depth of her commitment to the authenticity of the cuisine. In April 2014, she competed on the Food Network's CHOPPED. She has also launched a spicy Malaysian condiment in a jar called Hot Chilli Sambal that is available at the city's finest specialty food stores.
