Salon Series 1: The Russian Music Society - St. Petersburg Secrets
Founded in 1859 by the Grand Duchess Pavlovna and her protege, Anton Rubinstein, the Russia Music Society (RMS) made a significant contribution to the development of culture in Russia. The classes that Rubinstein established at RMS became the foundation of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, which opened in 1862 with Rubinstein as the founder and director. Program will feature Russian composers & alumni of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Anton Rubinstein (director 1862-1867 & 1887-1891) - Duo Pianistico di Firenze; Alexander Glazunow (director from 1905-1928) - Judy Sabin & Richard Stevens (20 Fingers); Vladimir Sapozhnikov; Alexander Radvilovitch; Georgy Portnov - Angelo Duo; Dmitri Shostakovich - Kepska Duo
