RAC Presents the Swensen LaDeur Duo with Special Guest Brenden Guy
There is something to be said for the chameleon, ever changing, adapting, and making its way beautifully in any environment.  Both Ian Swensen and Jeffrey LaDeur do this. They are so gifted individually, but have challenged themselves to constantly playing in new ensembles, to great revue.  Jeffrey performed at the Redwood Arts Council, first filling in for Paul Hersch, and then booked to play with his Delphi Trio.  A long time beloved California performer, Ian Swensen carries with him the ability to effortlessly convey the lyricism of any piece.  Maybe it's because both are passionate teacherswe don't know, but this combination will prove to create an unforgettable night! They will be joined by special guest and accomplished clarinetist, Brenden Guy.

A native of New York, violinist Ian Swensen came from a musically gifted family of Norwegian and Japanese Hawaiian descent. He received his training at The Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay and at the Eastman with Donald Weilerstein. For over twenty years, he has lived in the Bay Area, teaching at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Sacramento State University. He is a passionate pedagogue, and his students have gone on to major positions in orchestras and teaching institutions around the world. Alongside teaching, Swensen maintains an active schedule as soloist and chamber musician, appearing at Music@Menlo; with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society; and at venues across the United States and the world. Mr. Swensen has performed with members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, Emerson, Takács, Concord and Tokyo String Quartets, as well as Menahem Pressler, Gilbert Kalish, Mark O'Connor, and YoYo Ma, to name a few. He is one of the few musicians to have been awarded the Walter W. Naumberg International Competition's top prize for both chamber music and violin. Recent teaching and performing engagements have included Spoleto Festival of Three Worlds, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Moab Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Domaine Forget International Festival and Busan Festival in Korea, as well as festivals in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark and Ireland. This summer, Swensen will appear at Tanglewood Music Festival, Banff Music Festival, Morningside Music Bridge in Calgary, and Music@ Menlo. His recordings can be found on the TelArc and Deutsche Grammophon labels.

Jeffrey LaDeur enjoys an increasingly busy career as soloist, chamber musician and educator. Praised for his "assured virtuosity" and "articulate, expressive work at the keyboard" (San Francisco Classical Voice) Jeffrey has concertized around the world including performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Eastman Theater, Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt, and as artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts. His performances have been broadcast over WFMT Chicago, South Dakota Public Radio and as featured performer on America's Music Festivals hosted by Marin Alsop. With a repertoire ranging from Couperin to Kurtag and world premieres, Jeffrey has become known for his fluency in many styles.

British Clarinetist Brenden Guy has performed throughout Great Britain, Europe and North America including performances at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall, working with esteemed conductors Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Marin Alsop and Yan Pascal Tortelier. Mr. Guy's education includes degrees from the Royal College of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.  An avid chamber musician, Mr. Guy has been a member of San Francisco based Valinor Winds since 2009 and regularly collaborates with Bay Area musicians and composers through his work as an arts presenter. In early 2013, he founded Curious Flights, a concert series created to showcase new and rarely-performed works from the classical repertoire. A champion of English music, Mr. Guy is dedicated to promoting the lesser-known works of English composers in the United States.
