y3 Duo presents: "Folklore and Fantasy"
Sherborn native Jillian Zack moved away from home to New York City almost 10 years ago to pursue her passion for the piano.  She attended the Manhattan School of Music, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance.  She continued her studies at The Juilliard School, and in 2012 graduated with a Master's Degree in Collaborative Piano. While at Juilliard she met cellist Hannah Sloane, and they formed the "y3 duo".  Sloane, who grew up London, is a recipient of both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Cello Performance from The Juilliard School.

Zack and Sloane have performed frequently together in concerts both in New York as well as in the United Kingdom. Sloane moved back to London after graduation, and despite living on opposite sides of the pond, the duo plan to present several projects a year. At times they will perform as a duo, but for certain programs they will add a featured performer. On a 2012 recital tour of the UK, they were joined by Anna Sideris, an opera singer from the Royal Academy of Music in London. The group developed a set of joint vocal-cello recitals, which included many original transcriptions formulated by the performers. A goal of "y3" is to create unique programs and to perform in less conventional settings in order to be accessible to a wider and more varied audience. They hope to inspire people who may not typically listen to classical music. They want to create a more casual enjoyable listening experience and provide a fresh take on the classical concert. Their current project,  "Folklore and Fantasy", was designed out of their love for shorter piano and cello works, and brings together a selection of pieces that are influenced by the folksongs and fairy-tale stories passed down through history. The program covers a range of locales, focusing mainly on Eastern and Western European cultures.

Jillian lives in NYC with her husband, James Benjamin Rodgers, a tenor who hails from New Zealand. She is an active performer as well as a vocal coach.  She works with vocalists in all styles of music, focusing mostly on Classical and Musical Theater. She is also the Musical Director of the Philadelphia- based group ArtCy, whose productions offer a full theater experience to audiences presenting pastiche works that weave a storyline through a song program.  She also works as a Staff Accompanist at The Juilliard School and has performed frequently at Juilliard and at other venues throughout New York City, including Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. In addition, Jillian has performed throughout the United States, England, and New Zealand. She and her husband James are presenting a program of music by composer Kurt Weill in late August of this year in San Francisco. She is very excited to be returning home, as she has never actually performed in Sherborn.  While at Dover Sherborn High School, she was very active in the music and theater programs, performing annually in the spring musical, and also with the choir and jazz bands.  She also was a member, and then later, music director, of the a cappella group, and co-founder of the Drama Club.

Hannah resides in London where she keeps a full schedule as a performer and teacher. She is an active member of the Maiastra Chamber Music Ensemble and the London Chamber Collective, and she performs annually at the Lewes Chamber Music Festival. Hannah participated in the 2013 Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw, Poland and was a semi -finalist in the 2010 Irving M. Klein International String Competition in San Francisco, California. She has performed at many of the major concert venues in New York, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and Le Poisson Rouge. Hannah plays a Piattilini cello dating back to 1750, which is kindly on loan to her from the Stark family.

Despite their many commitments, performing together as the "y3 duo" remains a top priority. Interpreting musical compositions together has been a unique and rewarding experience for both artists, and they are anxious to continue the journey. Jillian and Hannah are thrilled to offer the "Folklore and Fantasy" program at The Sherborn Inn. The pair will reunite in London in the fall to present this program for a second time. The audience is invited to attend a light reception immediately following the concert. The Tavern at the Inn will be open for dinner before and after the performance, and beverages will be available from the bar. Space is limited. Advanced purchase is encouraged.
