Share this event:

You are cordially invited to join Native American Community Services of Erie and Niagara Counties, Inc. (NACS) at our 5th Annual Gala as we celebrate 39 years in a 'Tradition of Caring'.

To honor our Native American culture, each year our Annual Gala theme follows the verses of the traditional Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address, so this year the theme is "Giving Thanks - Honoring Mother Earth."

Our night begins with a reception at 5:30 pm with a basket raffle and silent auction items available to bid on.  Our Program begins at 6:30 pm.  Dinner will be served by 6:45 pm.

The event will also include the presentation of our "Bundled Arrows Awards" which will recognize individuals or organizations who help to strengthen our community.

NACS has been a key service provider to the greater Buffalo-Niagara community since 1975.  This annual fundraiser helps to fund gaps in our current programs, while laying the foundation for meeting the long-term needs of our community.

This is an alcohol and drug free event, a part of NACS' "Celebrating with a Good Mind" initiative.

5th Annual Gala Sponsors include:

Key Bank, National Grid, The Buffalo Sabres Foundation/Buffalo Bandits, and The Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino

PRESS RELEASE:

Native American Community Services (NACS) Announces 2014 "Bundled Arrows" Honorees!
To be presented at NACS 5th Annual Gala "Giving Thanks, Honoring Mother Earth"

Buffalo, NY  On Wednesday, September 17, 2014 Native American Community Services of Erie & Niagara Counties, Inc. (NACS) will be "Giving Thanks  Honoring Mother Earth" through its 5th Annual Gala.  This is the second year of having the theme follow the verses of the Traditional Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address, hence why honoring Mother Earth is the theme of this year's program.  The NACS' Gala will be held at Templeton Landing on the beautiful Buffalo waterfront.

The event will feature Grammy winner, Joanne Shenandoah, as a special guest Mistress of Ceremonies (MC) for the evening.  The internationally known singer, artist, author, and advocate will also perform a selection of her songs.  The Gala highlight will be the presentation of the "Bundled Arrows" Awards which recognize some of the many individuals and organizations that are working in partnership with NACS to help make the community and our future generations stronger.  According to NACS' Executive Director, Michael Martin, "Our Gala has had great success at building friends and supporters of NACS and the work we do, while also creating positive role models in the community through the presentation of our 'Bundled Arrows' Awards."

The 2014 "Bundled Arrows" Award Honorees are:
Noreen Johnson-Shongo (In Memoriam), Community Advocate
Scott Loffler, Director of Lacrosse Operations of the Buffalo Bandits
Neil Patterson, Jr., Tuscarora Environmental Task Force
Michelle Bancroft, Community Leader, IDLA, IWI, GATHON
Kiana Marshall, Community Youth, "Elder in Training"

NACS' Executive Director, Michael Martin states "Everyone is invited to join us for a wonderful evening of celebrating our local Native American community in an evening that features great food, a lot of fun, opportunities to win some items generously donated by our supporters, but most importantly, to help us show our appreciation and respect for some of the great contributions of amazing individuals in our community, while we also take time to honor our Mother Earth."

ABOUT THE "BUNDLED ARROWS" AWARD:

The award is in recognition of the individual contributions and commitment of the honorees to the strengthening of our local Native American community.  The awards are inspired by the Haudenosaunee Confederacy's Great Law of Peace in which the Peacemaker, on his journey to unite the confederacy in peace, gave the strongest warrior in the village one arrow and told him to break it and the warrior easily did.  He then bundled five arrows together to signify the original five nations to accept the Great Law and asked that same warrior to break it and he couldn't.  This simple act demonstrated that we are stronger working together when bundled together with good minds then we are separate.  NACS will show their appreciation of the commitment of the honorees and their partnership with the organization by presenting them with a beaded arrow representing that they are a part of NACS' bundle which makes both stronger as they work to meet the needs of the community.
