Photo Antiquities Museum at Bizarre! Bazaar!
Bizarre! Bazaar! welcomes the Photo Antiquities Museum for this one day only workshop/lecture by museum founder, Bruce Klein, that discusses the history of photography and the bizarre aspect of 19th century photography including post mortem, hidden mother, and cabinet cards. The Museum will also bring some pieces of their collection for viewing. Attendees will also be allowed to bring their personal collection of antique photos for Bruce to identify date, origin, and method used. This class is $25.00 and will run from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.
Bruce Klein, with over 40 years experience in photography, founded Photo Antiquities Museum of Photographic History in 1994 as a small display of vintage photographic images and equipment. The display came as a result of the many inquiries Mr. Klein would receive about the few daguerreotypes that he had on a shelf in his personal business office.
Friends and associates who would ask about these daguerreotypes found themselves captivated by the detailed descriptions of how the first practical photographic process came to be in 1839.
When made aware of the public's interest, and when the Smithsonian put away their once permanent display on photographic history, Mr. Klein recognized the need for the history of photography to be made available to the public. Mr. Klein then worked toward building upon Photo Antiquities and turning it into a museum dedicated to the history of photography. Photo Antiquities Museum Of Photographic History achieved 501(c) 3 (non-profit) status in August of 2000, with a mission dedicated to preservation, presentation and education.
Presently, as the President of The Board of Directors of Photo Antiquities Museum of Photographic History, Mr. Klein is still devoted to keeping photography's past for our future. Mr. Klein's expertise covers the identification of the many photographic processes that took place since 1839, as well as photographic preservation and restoration. His lectures on the history of photography offer a very informative, historical and educational lesson about something that is a part of everyday life but often taken for granted - photographs and the memories, art, science, history and educational materials they provide for us.
Can you imagine a world without pictures?
