"A Lucky Life" -- A Play About Lou Gehrig
"A Lucky Life" takes place on July 4, 1939. The New York Yankees and the Washington Senators are on the field between games of a double header. Lou Gehrig, 36 years old and suffering from ALS, is at his locker getting into his Yankee uniform to participate in his retirement ceremony. He is listening to a radio on the bench, where the broadcaster is reporting that he is appearing at his final game at Yankee Stadium today. That was 75 years ago.
Of all the players in baseball history, none possessed as much talent and humility as Lou Gehrig. His accomplishments on the field made him an authentic American hero, and his tragic death made him a legend.
Brandon Dahlquist, direct from Broadway's 'Bronx Bombers', plays Lou Gehrig in this production, which recently opened in June in Florida. Dahlquist engages the audience with little-known facts about Gehrig's life and brings-to-life the charm, character and courage that defines the legend's immortality.
A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the ALS Association.
